Call Ducks
Call ducks were originally bred to literally call the wild mallards in so wildfowlers could shoot the wild ducks. At this time, there was only one colour, grey (Mallard colour). Now they are largely an ornamental breed and have a very wide range of colours.
Call ducks are classified as one of the 'bantam ducks'. They originated in Holland.
Call ducks are small with an abnormally short bill compared to other ducks. They are readily availiable from many breeders. The females make a very persistent loud cackling noise whilst the males are relatively quiet.
Colourations
Pastel
The pastel call duck is one of the many beautiful mutations of the call duck, which originated in holland. They are coloured similar to a mallard. The males have a blackish head with a white neck ring and a brown breast. They have a largely silverish-grey rest of the body. The females are just buff coloured all over. As with all call ducks the females are very noisy.
